Govt clears appointments of Chief Justices for 4 high courts

The Centre on Wednesday cleared the appointment of chief justices for four high courts.
Justice Alok Aradhe, currently CJ of Karnataka High Court has been appointed as the Chief Justice of Telangana High Court. Justice Aradhe was originally appointed additional judge of the Madhya Pradesh High Court in 2009, and was transferred to the Jammu and Kashmir HC in 2016. He also briefly served as an acting chief justice there.
In 2018, he was transferred to the Karnataka High Court. From July to October 2022, Justice Aradhe was the acting chief Justice of Karnataka HC. He has a tenure as a High Court judge until April 2026.
The Centre appointed Justice Subhasis Talapatra, a judge of Orissa High Court, as the Chief Justice of the same High Court. His appointment will take effect on August 7, when the current Chief Justice, Justice S Muralidhar, retires.
Justice Talapatra is currently the second senior most judge of Orissa High Court. His tenure as a High Court judge is expected to end in October this year.
The government appointed Justice Sunita Agarwal, judge of the Allahabad High Court, as the Chief Justice of Gujarat High Court.
Justice Agrawal was appointed an additional judge of the Allahabad High Court in November 2011 and became a permanent judge in 2013. If not elevated to the Supreme Court, Justice Agrawal will retire in April 2028.

The government also notified the transfer of Justice P Sam Koshy, a judge of Chhattisgarh High Court to Telangana High Court.
